Tabs & Panes

Damson gives you tabs and a tree of split panes, with native-feeling animation and full keyboard control.

Tabs

ActionShortcut
New tab⌘T
Close tab⌘W
Next tab⌘⇧]
Previous tab⌘⇧[

Tab switches animate with a configurable transition (slide, or a spring settle), and the tab bar style is yours to set in Settings — including a transparent tab bar.

Split panes

Panes form a tree: every split divides a pane into two, and you can nest splits as deeply as you need.

ActionShortcut
Split horizontally⌘D
Split vertically⌘⇧D
Focus pane left / right / up / down⌘⌥ + arrow
Swap pane left / right / up / down⌘⇧ + arrow
  • Focus moves your cursor between panes without disturbing the layout.
  • Swap exchanges two panes’ positions, so you can rearrange a workspace without tearing it down and rebuilding it.

Tired of dragging splits into the same shape every time? Apply a whole layout in one keystroke with Preset Layouts.

Active-pane indicator

When you’re working across several panes it’s easy to lose track of which one has focus. Damson can highlight the active pane — for example by dimming the inactive ones — and optionally let focus follow the mouse. Both are configurable in Settings.

Session restore

Quit and relaunch and Damson brings your workspace back: tabs and panes return to where they were, and — if you enable it — so does the scrollback. You pick up exactly where you left off instead of rebuilding your layout each morning.
